Father's Day is a holiday dedicated to honoring fathers and their role in the family and society. In most countries around the world, it is celebrated on the third Sunday in June, but in some countries the dates may vary. The purpose of this day is to express gratitude and recognition to all fathers for their care, support, and upbringing of children.

History and Origin of the Holiday
The holiday was inspired by Mother's Day, which began to be celebrated in the early 20th century. The idea of Father's Day appeared in 1909 in the United States, when a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd suggested dedicating a special day to fathers. Her father, a Civil War veteran, was raising six children alone after the death of his wife. Sonora wanted to honor not only her father, but all men who demonstrate paternal care and responsibility. The first Father's Day was officially celebrated in Spokane, Washington, on June 19, 1910.

How Father's Day is Celebrated
Father's Day is celebrated differently in different countries, but the main traditions include:

Gifts. Children give their fathers gifts, which often include cards, family mementos, or something related to the father's hobby.
Spending time together. On this day, families try to spend more time together, have picnics, hikes, or dinners together.
Expressing gratitude. This can be verbal gratitude, congratulatory letters, or gestures of attention.

Father's Day in Different Countries
In the United States and many other countries (Canada, Great Britain, France, etc.), Father's Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June.
